Taipei is a city of contrasts, and the best way to understand it is by exploring its different neighborhoods. Each area has its own atmosphere, from ultra-modern streets to traditional alleys filled with temples, markets, and local cafés.
Around Taipei 101 – Modern Taipei

The area around Taipei 101 represents the modern face of the city.
Skyscrapers, wide avenues, shopping malls and business districts dominate the landscape.
It’s impressive to see, especially at night when the tower lights up, but it feels more dynamic than intimate.
I recommend going to Zhongshan Park to enjoy a breathtaking view of the tower or climbing the Xiangshan trail, which has many steps, to admire it from the top.
Zhongzheng District – Local Life & Green Spaces
Zhongzheng District is where we stayed, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The neighborhood feels very local and authentic, with small streets, traditional restaurants and daily Taiwanese life unfolding all around you.
The large parks in the area offer a peaceful escape from the city, and staying there really allowed us to feel immersed in Taiwanese culture.
Ximending – Youth, Fashion & Energy
Ximending is one of Taipei’s most famous districts. Very lively, noisy and colorful, it’s clearly aimed at a young crowd. You’ll find countless shops, street food stalls and neon signs. It’s fun and typical, but definitely one of the busiest areas in the city.
Dihua Street – Tradition & Craftsmanship
Dihua Street is a vibrant and historic area where old workshops, traditional stores and markets coexist. The street is lively and full of character, with many small craft shops and tea houses. It’s one of the best places to feel Taipei’s past blending with modern life.

After discovering this street I recommend visit Dalongdong Baoan Temple a beautiful and peacful temple. After visiting the temple, you can have an healthy meal in Aroma.
Wanhua District – Historical Taipei
Wanhua is one of the oldest districts in Taipei. The atmosphere is very different from the modern parts of the city. Temples, historic buildings and old monuments line the streets, giving the area a strong sense of history and spirituality.
One of the most famous temples in the neighbourhood to visit is Lungshan Temple and after you can easly go to Bopiliao Historical Block : it is a preserved historic street in Taipei where old red brick buildings tell the story of the city’s past. We ate at Yuan Fang Gua Bao a famous Micheline’s street food located in the small market.

Daan District – Trendy & Relaxed
Daan is a young and trendy neighborhood, popular for its cafés, small boutiques and relaxed vibe. It’s a great area to wander without a plan, stop for a coffee and enjoy a slower pace of city life. We main street is Yongkang Street. Daan park is also very popular with locals, who play sports and do stretching exercises in the morning.
Songshan – Culture, River & Night Market
Songshan combines cultural sites, riverside walks and local food. The area near the river is pleasant for a walk, and the night market nearby adds a lively touch in the evening. It’s a great neighborhood to experience Taipei both during the day and at night.
